The Unique Charm of Lakeview
Lakeview runs from Diversey Parkway north to Irving Park and Montrose, and from Ravenswood Avenue east to the lake. It was absorbed into Chicago in 1889, after growing from about 2,000 people to 45,000 in seventeen years, and that speed is written into the housing: block after block of low rise brick, greystone and brownstone walk ups, and vintage courtyard buildings built in a U around an open court. Wrigley Field anchors Wrigleyville between Grace and Cornelia, Northalsted runs along Halsted, and West Lakeview fills in toward Ravenswood. Six L stations serve the neighbourhood: Addison, Belmont, Paulina, Sheridan, Southport and Wellington, on the Red, Brown and Purple lines. Belmont Harbor holds the marina. Residential Holiday Lighting
A greystone walk up and a courtyard building are different jobs on the same street. The walk up gives you one narrow street facing elevation and a cornice to work from. The courtyard building gives you three elevations facing an interior court that only residents see, plus a street face that everyone sees. We quote and design them separately. Every residential package is all inclusive: custom design, install, mid season maintenance, takedown and storage.
Commercial Holiday Lighting
Southport, Clark and Halsted are walking retail streets where December shopping happens after dark. At that range an outlined top edge and lit windows read clearly, while detail scattered across a facade turns to noise between the streetlights.
Courtyard buildings have an inside and an outside
The U shaped courtyard building is the signature Lakeview form, and it raises a question no single family house does: which elevations are you actually lighting for. The street face is seen by the neighbourhood and by anyone walking to the L. The three inner faces are seen only by the people who live there, every single day, from their own windows. Those are different jobs with different budgets, and buildings often want both at different intensities. We price them as separate elevations so a board can choose rather than guess.
What a Lakeview install costs
Seasonal lighting for an average house starts at $799 and up, depending on the complexity, height and access of the job. A single greystone or brownstone front with one street elevation is often near it. The number moves with height, since a three storey cornice sits past comfortable ladder reach, with corner buildings where two elevations face the public, and with courtyard buildings quoted per elevation rather than per unit. We quote the whole job after we walk the roofline, never off a rate card or a square footage table.
