Christmas Light Installation in Evanston, IL
Custom Christmas lighting and permanent roofline lighting for Evanston, across a city dense enough that three Metra stops and eight Purple Line stations fit inside eight square miles.
The Unique Charm of Evanston
Evanston incorporated as a town on 29 December 1863 and organised as a city in 1892. About 78,110 people live in 7.80 square miles at a density above 10,000 per square mile, which makes it far denser than the villages further up the North Shore and changes how lighting is seen. Northwestern University, founded in 1851 and older than the city itself, occupies a 240 acre campus of roughly 250 buildings and is the largest employer at nearly 9,500 people. The city was dry from 1858 until 1972. Transit is unusually thick: Metra Union Pacific North stops at Main Street, Davis Street and Central Street, and the CTA Purple Line adds eight more stations, so several distinct retail districts each have their own evening foot traffic. We love contributing to the local character of Evanston with our beautiful lighting designs, whether seasonal or permanent.
Our Services in Evanston
From magical Christmas displays to permanent architectural lighting, we have professional solutions for every property and every season.
Residential Holiday Lighting
At Evanston densities the houses are close together and mostly seen on foot, which rewards precision over scale. Straight lines, even spacing and a consistent bulb temperature read better here than a large display, because the viewing distance is a sidewalk rather than a lawn. Runs are cut to each facet and clipped at intervals that hold through a thaw. Every residential package is all inclusive: custom design, install, mid season maintenance, takedown and storage.
Commercial Holiday Lighting
Evanston has several separate business districts rather than one, downtown near Davis Street, Central Street to the north, and Dempster among them, each with its own walking crowd. Outlining the top edge gives a block a continuous line, which is what pedestrians register between stores.
Several downtowns, each with its own evening
Most towns we light have one commercial centre. Evanston has several, and they do not behave alike. The downtown blocks near the Davis Street stop carry commuters, students and shoppers together and stay busy late. Central Street is more residential in rhythm and empties earlier. Northwestern's calendar empties much of the city for the second half of December, which matters if your customers are students rather than residents. We set timer schedules per district rather than one schedule for the city, because the hours worth being lit are genuinely different a mile apart.
What an Evanston install costs
Seasonal lighting for an average house starts at $799 and up, depending on the complexity, height and access of the job. Evanston's older frame and brick houses near the lake carry porches, dormers and cut trim that push footage up, while the denser blocks west of Ridge tend to sit closer to the starting number on narrower frontages. Multi unit buildings are quoted per elevation rather than per unit. We quote the whole job after we walk the roofline, never off a rate card or a square footage table.

This is my 2 nd winter using Hanging Lights. I am very happy with the results. They are so nice and accommodating to how you want your lights done or changes made from the previous year. I will be using them for years to come.
