Christmas Light Installation in Elgin, IL

Custom Christmas lighting and permanent roofline lighting for Elgin, from the Queen Anne blocks in the historic districts to the newer subdivisions west of the Fox River.

The Unique Charm of Elgin

James and Hezekiah Gifford founded Elgin in April 1835 and it incorporated as a city on 24 April 1854. With about 114,797 residents it is the sixth most populous city in Illinois, spread across 38.60 square miles some 35 miles northwest of Chicago, on both banks of the Fox River. For most of a century it was a watchmaking town: the Elgin National Watch Company ran the largest watchmaking complex in the world until production stopped in 1965 and the factory came down in 1966, though the clocks at Union Station still carry the Elgin name. Two National Register historic districts hold the cobblestone and Queen Anne housing, along with Sears catalogue homes built between 1908 and 1940. Three Metra stations serve the city on the Milwaukee District West line: National Street, Elgin, and Big Timber Road at the western end. We love contributing to the local character of Elgin with our beautiful lighting designs, whether seasonal or permanent.

Our Services in Elgin

From magical Christmas displays to permanent architectural lighting, we have professional solutions for every property and every season.

Residential Holiday Lighting

A Queen Anne with a turret, a wraparound porch and three gable faces is a different install from a Sears catalogue foursquare with a simple hip roof, and Elgin has both, often on the same street. We measure and cut every run to the individual facet, and hang from gutter lines and shingle edges so no fastener enters century old trim. Every residential package is all inclusive: custom design, install, mid season maintenance, takedown and storage.

Commercial Holiday Lighting

Downtown Elgin has the bones of a much larger city, with tall street walls and the Elgin Tower Building anchoring the skyline. On blocks like that, outlining the top edge of a building is what gives the street a continuous line, because the upper floors are what people actually see.

Permanent Lighting Installation

Transform your outdoor spaces with professional permanent lighting installations. Enhance ambiance, security, and property value year-round with invisible tracks and smart app control.

Patio & Bistro Lighting

Bistro strings over patios, pergolas and decks, hung on proper catenary with dimmable warm white bulbs. The one install that earns its keep from spring through fall rather than only in December.

Cobblestone, Queen Anne, and what we will not screw into

Elgin's two historic districts hold housing that has stood for well over a century, including its distinctive cobblestone homes. Nothing we install is screwed, nailed or stapled into original bargeboard, porch millwork or cut brackets, and on a masonry or cobblestone facade there is nothing to fasten to in the first place. We work the gutter line and the shingle edge, size clips to the specific profile rather than forcing a universal clip, and apply the same discipline at takedown, which is when most damage to old trim actually happens.

What an Elgin install costs

Seasonal lighting for an average house starts at $799 and up, depending on the complexity, height and access of the job. Elgin covers a wider spread than almost anywhere we work, because 38 square miles holds everything from Victorian ornament to recent subdivisions. A newer two story west of the river sits at the starting number. A Queen Anne in a historic district with a turret, dormers and a wraparound porch can carry twice the footage of a modern house the same size, because the ornament is the point of the house. We quote the whole job after we walk the roofline, never off a rate card or a square footage table.

Hanging Lights Club did a great job with our Christmas lights for a reasonable price. The photos show the work they did on to trim the front and side rooflines. I would strongly recommend them.

They did an excellent job!! Very professional installing lights on my roof, carefully putting each lights on my gutter. The wirings are neat and clean I don’t see any cluttered wirings, I liked the combinations of the lights the warm and red lights. Very precised on where they cut the connections, convenient to me with the timer it wil go on and off on my desired time. I would highly recommend them to my friends, neighbors, and family specially in this holiday season.
