The Unique Charm of Naperville
Joseph Naper founded the settlement in 1831, it incorporated as a village in 1857 and as a city in 1890, and it is now the fourth most populous city in Illinois with about 149,540 residents. That scale means two very different lighting jobs inside one city. Downtown holds the Naperville Historic District, 573 buildings listed on the National Register since September 1977, along with Naper Settlement, the 1.75 mile Riverwalk begun in 1981 on the West Branch of the DuPage River, and North Central College, which has been here since 1870. West of that, the subdivisions built out toward the Route 59 corridor are newer, larger and far more uniform. Two Metra stations serve the city, the main Naperville station and Route 59. A house in the historic district gets every run cut to fit the individual gable, dormer and porch face, with clips sized to original trim and no fasteners into old wood. A newer build west of downtown gets consistent spacing across a long clean roofline, which reads best when the line is unbroken. Every residential package is all inclusive: custom design, install, mid season maintenance, takedown and storage.

The historic district and the Route 59 subdivisions are different jobs
573 buildings carry National Register listing downtown, and the practical consequence is that almost nothing there takes a standard prefabricated length. Gables, dormers, porch roofs and bays each get measured and cut separately, and the trim is old enough that fasteners are out of the question. Ten minutes west, a subdivision house off Route 59 presents the opposite problem: a long uninterrupted roofline where any inconsistency in spacing, or any sag between clips, is immediately obvious because there is nothing to break the eye. Same crew, same day, two different standards of what good looks like.
